R744 CO2

CO2 For Refrigeration And Air Conditioning

The term R744 refers to CO2 when it is used as natural refrigerant in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry. R744 CO2 has excellent thermodynamic properties and has significant advantages compared to classical and other alternative refrigerants.

R744 refrigerant properties:

  • CO2 is non-corrosive, non-toxic and non-flammable
  • CO2 is environmentally friendly, it has no Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP=0) and a minimum Global Warming Potential (GWP=1)
  • CO2 is a quota-free-product, there are no restrictions of production, import or use in the F-Gas Regulation

In commercial, industrial and mobile refrigeration, from cold stores to automotive sector, R744 CO2 offers significant advantages in terms of environmental impact and efficiency.

CO2 Refrigeration Systems – Quality Requirements Of R744

For most industrial CO2 applications, a gas purity of 99.9% ensures the desired results. However, for CO2 refrigeration, there are additional requirements for R744. Even a slight increase in moisture content can lead to corrosion of the refrigerant circuit due to carbonic acid formation. There is also a risk of ice crystal deposits blocking the piping of the CO2 refrigeration system and causing malfunction or serious damage. Non-condensable gases (e.g. nitrogen, air) can increase the pressure in the condenser. CK Supply recommends a CO2 purity of 99,995% (CO2 4.5) for the use as R744 refrigerant.

CK Supply pays attention to the quality of the product both during production and along the entire supply chain of R744 CO2. All processes for manufacturing of this natural refrigerant comply with EN ISO 9001 quality management standards and the internal quality and safety regulations that apply.

Safe Handling Of R744 Co2

Regardless of the application, compressed and liquefied gases require increased user attention. We are glad to answer all questions you might have on the application and safe handling of R744 CO2.
