Metal inert gas (MIG) welding, also known as gas metal arc welding, uses electric current to melt and fuse metal. In this process an electric arc forms between a consumable welding wire and the workpiece metal. A contact tip transfers electric current and guides the wire.
Along with the wire, shielding gas feeds through the welding gun. Shielding gases protect the weld from contaminants and deformities, and with constant wire feeding, heated workpiece metals melt and join inside the radius of a weld pool. The metal being welded can be manipulated in various ways depending on the technician’s skill. This versatile welding process can use either a direct or alternating current power source. MIG welding is preferred for its adaptability, speed, and the relative ease in forming welding joints.
Our retail stores are a one-stop shop for everything you need to get the job done right. We have a wide variety of MIG guns, spool guns, welding helmets, tips, gloves, wire, and much more backed with expertise to lead you in the right direction.
